Taken from an email by Matt about a proposed Power Line transmission line that could go through Argyle Canyon

-----------------------------

. If the existing one is approved, anyone of us with power lines or poles on our properties will forfeit a 250’ wide right of way on our properties and road construction/land clearing if you happen to have one of the large power structure on your land like mine would be.

They would clear all trees etc. for a 250’ wide path anywhere the power lines would be planned and they would make a large impact on the land with the construction equipment needed to pour footings for the structures, run power lines, etc.

We would also have to deal with the what they call the “Corona” effect which is put off by the 500 KV line in foul/wet weather causing a loud humming or popping noise which would also take away from the silence we now enjoy.

This also has the potential to interfere with any electronic devices such as cell phone service, and in my case the Direct TV signal I receive which is currently right in line with the proposed route through my property. ( I mainly use the service in the winter time when we snowmobile in there and would be the worst time for the Corona effect I mentioned).

Pacific Corp. has been good about notifying those that the line would cross or be on their properties, however, for those that it does not, or are close to the proposed line have not been directly notified of this plan.

Beetle Infestation

This is the information Ken said that he would get to us about the beetle problems we are having and the method to help protect some of our trees.

Spray that contains certain formulations of carbaryl (Sevin SL or Carbaryl 4L) or permethrin (Astro and others) are registered for this purpose. If phloem tissue has been reached by the beetle, then the beetle is protected by the tree bark and is not affected by the insecticide.  Spray all sides and surfaces of the tree trunk up to 30 feet high or to the site where the trunk narrows to 6 inches.  If part of the trunk is missed, that part is vulnerable to attack.  Apply preventative sprays about med-June.  Treatments are usually effective up to one year.  Repeat them until the insect outbreak passes.  Caution! Follow pesticide directions.
